What We Do The Trustees of Reservations
The Trustees of Reservations have made the most of a small grant from the Robert F. Stoico/FIRSTFED Foundation… For $5,000 per student, a corporation or Foundation can sponsor one high school student in the Bioreserve Youth Corps for an entire year. Each student has the opportunity to work after school and in the summers to learn about the Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve under the guidance of Linton Harrington, Bioreserve Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Trustees. Linton launched the program three years ago as way of giving young people a chance to connect constructively with nature- as well as avoid the dead-end grind of so many teenage jobs and the Stoico/FIRSTFED Foundation was its first sponsor. Students come from diverse backgrounds, attending BMC Durfee High School and Bristol County Agricultural High School, among others. As Youth Corps members, students have a chance to complete hands-on environmental research and management projects, lead public tours and nature programs, and build outdoor leadership skills under the direction and supervision of a passionate naturalist.
